Securing a tourism internship in Uganda can provide valuable hands-on experience and insights into the workings of the country’s tourism industry. Regarding your place of internship, you need to have this made well as it’s your first professional job, (the first working experience). So the company offering you internship should be able to teach you about the operations and all procedures they undertake to run the business. Some company bosses never want to share all the ideas because they fear the competition, thinking that you may also start the same business.

Here are some steps and considerations to help you find and apply for tourism internships in Uganda:

  • Identify Potential Organizations: Research tourism agencies, hotels, tour operators, wildlife conservation organizations, national parks, and government bodies involved in tourism. Look for internship opportunities on their websites or contact them directly.
  • Networking: Connect with professionals in the tourism industry through social media platforms like LinkedIn or attend industry-related events and seminars to expand your network. Networking might lead to internship opportunities or valuable advice.

University or Institution Support:

  • As an institute, we help our students to find better and suitable places for them to do their internships as part of their career development. However, some companies will charge the internship fee, and others will not charge, depending on what you will do and where. Whereas others will actually be giving you internship allowances.

Online Platforms:

  • Utilize online internship platforms such as Internships Uganda, BrighterMonday Uganda, or other job listing websites that occasionally feature internship opportunities in the tourism sector.

Tailor Your Application:

  • CV/Resume: Prepare a well-structured CV/resume highlighting relevant skills, education, and any previous experience related to tourism or hospitality.
  • Cover Letter: Write a tailored cover letter expressing your interest in the specific organization and how your skills align with their needs. Showcase your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
