Mbarara City Hikers Club and Trekkers Club Ibanda hosts Fort Portal Hikers

Mbarara City Hikers Club combines with Trekkers Club Ibanda and hosted Tourism City Hikers fort portal. From December 7th to 8th, 2024, Mbarara City Hikers Club collaborated with Trekkers Club Ibanda to host the Tourism City Hikers from Fort Portal for a vibrant hiking event in Katete, Mbarara District. This gathering marked a significant milestone in the regional tourism landscape, showcasing the synergy among four active hiking clubs: Mbarara City Hikers Club, Trekkers Club Ibanda, Kasese Hiking Club, and Tourism City Hiking Club in Fort Portal.

These clubs are committed to revolutionizing tourism in their regions by fostering a deeper connection between locals and tourism activities. Their collective mission is to promote the gospel of tourism and conservation while striving to create safer and more sustainable communities.

A key focus of their efforts is making tourism accessible and affordable for local travelers. By offering budget-friendly options to explore local destinations, they aim to inspire greater appreciation and engagement with the region’s natural and cultural heritage.

Through initiatives like this event, the clubs are not only enriching the tourism experience but also reinforcing the importance of conservation and community involvement. Their vision underscores the transformative potential of grassroots tourism to uplift regions, nurture environmental stewardship, and foster unity among people.

The two days event started on 7th being the first day of the event with evening campfire where they roasted maize, cassava, green banana (matooke) all brought by members, shared exciting stories, and then later went for a night life in Mbarara town, a 2km distance till late morning.

On the second day of the event

On the second day of the event, participants enjoyed a delicious and invigorating breakfast that set a vibrant tone for the day. The group then embarked on an exhilarating five-hour hike through the breathtaking and iconic hills of Katete in Mbarara. The scenic landscapes, combined with the hikers’ radiant energy, created an unforgettable experience as they ascended and descended the picturesque trails.

After the hike, the group returned to the camp, where they indulged in a well-deserved late lunch, relishing the flavors while recounting the day’s adventures. The atmosphere buzzed with camaraderie and shared excitement as everyone reflected on the journey.

The event concluded with heartfelt closing remarks, where organizers and participants alike celebrated the success of the gathering. The blend of awe-inspiring nature, delicious meals, and shared memories marked the occasion as a resounding success, leaving everyone with lasting impressions and a sense of accomplishment.

Among the participants for this amazing event, was the director KCI Institute and CEO Kenlink Tours Mr. Hafasha Keneth who was so excited and thanked the organizers of the events and the members of the three clubs that participated in the event.

He added “I would like to thank everyone that made this event successful, thanks so much the organizers, and those that helped us prepare the delicious food. We are with you and we shall be with you all the times and make sure all is well where we can”

Mr. Fenekasi Sabiit Mbiire the director Kitara Tourism Foundation was also part of the event, and he is a long term member of Trekkers Club Ibanda who has always been so supportive to both clubs and has always given the best of his time to them to see that everything is amazing.

I his words the Founder of the club Mr. Twijukye Divas Eliya he appreciated the team and members for making the event amazing, and so connective to everyone.

“As founder of both Mbarara City Hikers and Trekkers Club Ibanda I’m proud to foster a community that promotes exploration, conservation, and camaraderie. Together, we’ll continue to discover Uganda’s hidden gems and inspire a love for nature and adventure.
Mission remains remains unavailing: to establish a network of hiking clubs, democratizing tourism and making it accessible to all Ugandans.” He said.
